Ameland is one of the West-Frisian-Islands in the Dutch archipelago. 75% of its territory is still wild and most of it is legally protected, including 100% of the marine area of the Wadden Sea. This destination has a great focus on sustainability. Its goal is to become 100% self-sufficient with renewable energy consumption by 2020. Ameland also offers its visitors excellent accommodation services; 2 out of its 34 hotels are Green Key certified. This small island is also known for its strong local identity and culture hosting numerous museums and festivals such as, “Bootwateren”.
