The Oeste Portugal region is a unique cultural region composed by 12 municipalities each promoting sustainable development and quality of life. The clean beaches have an “Excellent” status regarding the EU bathing water directive and about 16 beaches are accessible to people with disabilities. 87% of the Oeste Region is non-buildable and a large part of the territory is a protected natural area. The region also has the greatest underwater reef of Europe; the reef of Nazaré. Plus, the region possesses a distinctive cultural heritage through many museums and well-restored historical buildings including the UNESCO World Heritage site “Monastery of Alcobaça”.
This destination participated in the ‘Best of Top 100 Awards’ at ITB Berlin 2018 and was the 1st winner of the Best of Cities, Communities & Culture awards category, along with other 3 QualityCoast Portuguese destinations.
This destination also participated in the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards at ITB Berlin and was the 1st winner of the Best of Europe awards category along with other 7 Portuguese destinations.
